An economic concept that indicates how the fruits of production are divided among each member of society. The issue of income distribution is one of the fundamental economic issues, along with the issue of resource allocation, which is how and for what purpose limited resources should be used. Distribution and allocation issues are closely related, and there are often conflicts between distributive fairness and distributive efficiency. Distribution issues are divided into empirical fields that seek to deepen understanding through analysis of distribution facts, and normative fields that seek to evaluate and design distribution rules and systems based on value judgments of fairness and justice.

生産の成果が社会の各構成員に対してどのように分けられるかを示す経済学上の概念。所得分配の問題は，限られた資源をどのような目的に，どのような方法で使用するかという資源配分の問題と並んで，基本的な経済問題のひとつになっている。分配問題と配分問題は密接につながっており，分配上の公平と配分上の効率とが衝突することも少なくない。　分配問題は，分配の事実に関する分析を通して理解を深めようとする実証的分野と，公平･公正という価値判断に基づいて分配のルールや制度を評価･設計しようとする規範的分野とに分かれる。
