[Medicinal]
It is a herbal medicine developed in Japan, and its bark is called "youbaihi". It contains tannins and the flavonoids myricetin and myricitrin. It has an astringent and diuretic effect, and is used internally for diarrhea and bruises. A decoction made of it alone neutralizes arsenic poisoning, and it is also effective when applied externally for burns, scabies, and other skin diseases.
