A village with a population of 3,353 (1979) on the Tinto River in the province of Huelva in southern Spain. Palos, along with the nearby town of Moguer (the birthplace of the poet Jimenez), was the launching point of the Age of Discovery, which began at the end of the 15th century. Columbus arrived in the village in 1485 and met Juan Pérez, abbot of La Rabida, to whom he told about his voyage plans. Seven years later, on August 3, 1492, with the support of the Catholic Monarchs, he set sail from the port of Palos and returned to the same port on March 15 of the following year. The port is now buried under sand.

スペイン南部ウエルバ県，ティント川に面する人口3353(1979)の村。パロスは近くの町モゲル(詩人ヒメネスの生地)とともに，15世紀末に始まる大航海時代の出帆地であった。コロンブスは1485年同村に着き，ラ･ラビダ修道院長フアン･ペレスを知り航海計画を話した。7年後の1492年8月3日，カトリック両王の援助を得て，パロス港から出帆し，翌年3月15日に同港に帰還した。この港は現在は砂に埋もれている。
