Japanese: 大内椀 - おおうちわん

These bowls have been passed down through the Mori clan in Yamaguchi. In addition to those from when the Ouchi clan lived in Yamaguchi Castle, similar bowls are generally called Ouchi bowls. There are four types: rice bowls, soup bowls, flat bowls, and tsubo bowls. They are all painted with bengara lacquer, with cloud shapes painted in black lacquer and chrysanthemum branches painted in yellow lacquer, and are covered with gold leaf. Ouchi lacquer is said to have been encouraged by Ouchi Yoshitaka, and in the early Meiji period, under the guidance of Kondo Seiseki, Iwamoto Umeyoshi reproduced old works to revive the style, which continues to this day.

山口の毛利家に伝わる椀類で，かつて大内氏が山口城にいたころのもののほか，同種のものを一般に大内椀と呼ぶ。飯椀，汁椀，平椀，坪の４種があり，総弁柄(べんがら)塗に黒漆で雲形，黄漆で枝菊を描き，金箔(きんぱく)を張ったもの。大内塗は大内義隆の奨励によるといわれ，明治初年に近藤清石の指導により，岩本梅吉が古作を模造して復興し現在に及ぶ。
