Hodgkin, T.

Japanese: Hodgkin,T.(英語表記)HodgkinT
Hodgkin, T.

...A type of malignant lymphoma. It was first described in 1832 by the British physician Thomas Hodgkin (1798-1866), hence the name, but it is somewhat different from what is now recognized as Hodgkin's disease. Currently, it is characterized histopathologically by the proliferation of giant cells with segmented nuclei called Reed-Sternberg cells. The etiology is thought to be viral infection or immune abnormalities, but has not been confirmed. The incidence in Japan is lower than in Europe and the United States, accounting for around 15% of all malignant lymphomas.
