Shio [town] - Shio

Japanese: 志雄[町] - しお

An old town in Hakui County, central Ishikawa Prefecture. The central settlement, Shio, was a former post station on the Nanao Kaido road. It is in the southern part of the Ochigata lowlands and has many rice fields. Industries include textiles and pharmaceuticals, and grapes and tobacco are grown on the sand dunes. The coast is part of Chirihama Beach and has a swimming beach. In March 2005, it merged with Oshimizu Town in Hakui County to become a town, Houdatsu Shimizu Town. 58.26 ^km2 . Population 7,421 (2003).

石川県中部，羽咋(はくい)郡の旧町。中心集落子浦(しお)は七尾街道の旧宿駅。邑知(おうち)潟低地帯の南部に当たり，水田が多い。繊維，製薬などの工業，砂丘でのブドウ・タバコ栽培が行われる。海岸は千里浜(ちりはま)海岸の一部で，海水浴場がある。2005年３月羽咋郡押水町と合併し町制，宝達志水町となる。58.26km²。7421人（2003）。
