A national park on the island of Maui, Hawaii, USA. Mount Haleakala (2,935m above sea level) in the park is a shield volcano, and its summit crater is the largest in the world, shaped like a gourd, with a long axis of 12km and a short axis of 4km, and a depth of 830m. It was originally part of Hawaii National Park, but was separated as Haleakala National Park in 1961.
