A hilly region in western Russia. Located roughly halfway between St. Petersburg and Moscow, it forms the watershed between the Volga, Western Dvina, and Lake Ilmen. It is the northern extension of the Central Russian Highlands, with an average elevation of 150-250m, and its highest point of 343m southwest of Vyshny Vorochok. The western slope is steep and continues to the Lake Ilmen plain, but the eastern slope is gentler. The hills consist of moraine rows and hills, with three or more end moraine rows. There are many lakes on the hills, including Lake Seliger, and pine forests and cultivated fields intersect. It is one of Russia's hiking regions. ロシア西部にある丘陵地帯。サンクトペテルブルグとモスクワのほぼ中間に位置し,ボルガ川,西ドビナ川,イリメン湖の各水系の分水界をなしている。中央ロシア高地の北の延長にあたり,平均標高 150~250m,最高点はブイシニーボロチョーク南西方の 343m。西斜面は急傾斜でイリメン湖平野へ続くが,東斜面はゆるやかである。丘陵は氷堆石の列と丘から成り,終堆石の列が3つ以上みられる。丘陵上にはセリゲル湖をはじめ多くの湖があり,マツ林と耕地が交錯している。ロシアのハイキング地域の一つである。
