?-646 or 647 King of the Puṣyabhūti (Vardhana) dynasty of ancient India. Reigned from 605 or 606 to 646 or 647. Known as Harsha for short, and also as Śīlāditya (King of the Vardhana). After the unexpected death of his elder brother, he became king of a large kingdom in the upper Ganges region, combining the kingdom of Thanesar, which had existed since his father's time, with the territory of the Maukari dynasty, which had become vacant after the death of his brother-in-law. He then established his capital at Kanyakubhuja (Kanauj, Kiyokumejō) on the Ganges, and marched his troops around the country, defeating his arch enemy, King Shashanka of Bengal, and unifying most of northern India.
