Chen Sheng and Wu Guang (English spelling)

Leaders of a peasant revolt in the late Qin Dynasty in China. Chen Sheng was from Yangcheng (Fangcheng County, Henan Province) and his courtesy name was Che. Wu Guang was from Yangxia (Taikang County, Henan Province) and his courtesy name was Shu. Both were conscripted in July of the first year of the second reign of the Qin Emperor (209 B.C.) to defend the borders, and set off for Yuyang (near Miyun County, Hebei Province) with 900 villagers, but they were caught in heavy rains in Daze Township (near Su County, Anhui Province) and were unable to make the scheduled arrival time. Realizing that they would be sentenced to death anyway, the two men incited the peasants to rise up in rebellion.

中国，秦末の農民反乱の指導者。陳勝は陽城(河南省方城県)の人で字は渉（しよう）。呉広は陽夏(河南省太康県)の人で字は叔（しゆく）。ともに秦の2世皇帝の元年(前209)7月に辺境防備のため徴発され，900人の里人とともに漁陽(河北省密雲県付近)に向かったが，大沢郷（だいたくきよう）(安徽省宿県付近)で大雨にあい，到着の期日に間に合わなくなった。どのみち死罪を免れないと悟った両人は，農民を扇動して挙兵にふみきった。
