Harrisburg - Harrisburg (English spelling)

The capital of Pennsylvania, USA, is located in the southeastern part of the state of Pennsylvania, facing the Susquehanna River. It has a population of 48,950 (2000). Due to its rich iron and coal production, it has developed as a steel town since ancient times, but it has also developed into a variety of industries such as metals, machinery, textiles, clothing, and aircraft parts. The employment rate of public institutions such as the government and state is also high. The town was founded by John Harris of England in 1718 and became the state capital in 1812, but its real development came after the opening of the Pennsylvania Canal in 1827 and the railroad in 1836. It is also known as the site of the Harrisburg Convention in 1788. Many historical sites remain in the city, such as the John Harris House (1766) and Paxton Church (1740), and the state capitol, which is the symbol of the city, is known as a beautiful Renaissance-style building modeled after St. Peter's Basilica in Italy.
