A district in the northwest of Los Angeles in southern California, United States. Known as the movie capital, today it is the center of television and radio broadcasting. It was first settled in 1853. In 1910 it was incorporated into Los Angeles. The area has many favorable conditions for film production, such as a warm climate, many sunny days, a diverse topography, and a large labor market. About 20 film companies started productions here in the early 20th century, and it has flourished as a film production center for more than 30 years. Since the late 1940s, the production of films for television has become popular, and by the early 1960s, about 80% of American television entertainment works were produced here, and many film studios have switched to television only. There are many theaters, including the famous outdoor theater Hollywood Bowl, and the neighboring Beverly Hills district is known for its large mansions for actors. Cosmetics manufacturing and the fashion industry are also thriving in the area. Hollywood |
