Paramedical (English spelling)

Japanese: パラメディカル（英語表記）paramedical

Originally it was an adjective meaning "to help a doctor," but it is often used to mean paramedical staff, referring to medical professionals other than doctors and dentists. Recently, the word "comedical" has also come to be used more and more, emphasizing the word "cooperation." Paramedical refers to people who work in clinics and hospitals, excluding doctors and dentists, and is mainly made up of occupations that require a license through national or prefectural exams, such as nurses, pharmacists, diagnostic radiologists, clinical laboratory technicians, physical therapists, dental technicians, and dental hygienists.

本来は〈医師の手伝いをする〉という意味の形容詞であるが，医師，歯科医師以外の医療従事者を指すパラメディカル･スタッフparamedical staffの意味で用いられることが多い。さらに最近では，〈協力〉を前面に出した言葉としてコメディカルcomedicalを用いることも多くなってきた。　パラメディカルは診療所や病院に働く人たちのうち，医師や歯科医師を除いた人たちを指し，看護婦，薬剤師，診療放射線技師，臨床検査技師，理学療法士，歯科技工士，歯科衛生士などのように，国家試験や都道府県試験を経てライセンスを取得すべき職種が中心となって構成される。
