…All of these temples were sub-temples of Ninna-ji Temple, and were operated as the emperor's later temples. Enyu-ji Temple was established in 983 (Eikan 1) by Emperor Enyu, who was a devoted follower of Ninna-ji Temple. Other temples include Enkyo-ji Temple, which was established in 998 (Chotoku 4) by Emperor Ichijo, Enjo-ji Temple, which was completed in 1055 (Tenki 3) by Emperor Go-Reizei at the request of Emperor Go-Suzaku, and Ensuji Temple (originally called Enmyoji Temple) which was established in 1070 (Enkyu 2) by Emperor Go-Sanjo. At Ensuji Temple, the Hokke-e and Saisho-e were held as national Buddhist ceremonies, and later, together with the Hossho-ji Daijo-e, they were called the Three Beijing Ceremonies. …
