Long-tailed birch mouse

Japanese: オナガネズミ - おながねずみ(英語表記)long-tailed birch mouse
Long-tailed birch mouse
A rodent mammal of the family Musculidae (family Versicolor), smaller than a mouse, with a remarkably long tail. Also called the Kangsu long-tailed mouse. Found in Sakhalin, Ussuri, Gansu, Sichuan, Tianshan, Kashmir, and the Caucasus. Body length 6.3 cm, tail length about 11.5 cm. The dorsal surface of the body is uniformly light brown, and the ventral surface is light gray with a slight brownish tinge. The tail is unusually long, 1.8 times the body length, hence the name. There are four other species in this genus, found in northeastern Europe and central and northern Asia, but their tails are not as long as this species, less than 1.5 times the body length.
