Palamedes - Paramédes (English spelling)

A hero in Greek mythology. He is as wise as Odysseus, and leads an expedition to Troy as a commander of both wisdom and bravery, but is killed by Odysseus's scheme. This was Odysseus' revenge.

Palamedes, as an envoy of Agamemnon, asked Odysseus to join the Trojan expedition, but Odysseus, who had just been married and was blessed with a son, Telemachus, did not want to go to war and pretended to be insane in front of Palamedes. However, Palamedes, who realized the truth, pretended to harm Telemachus and saw through Odysseus's fake insanity. Odysseus was forced to join the Trojan war, but he deeply resented Palamedes and waited for an opportunity to take revenge. After landing in Troy, Odysseus cleverly made the generals believe that Palamedes was in cahoots with the enemy, and had him stoned to death as a traitor. His father, Nauplius, was angry at this treatment and asked the generals to compensate for his son, but was refused, so he traveled around Greece and arranged for the wives of the expeditionary generals to commit adultery.

ギリシア神話の英雄。オデュッセウスと並ぶ知恵者で、知勇兼備の大将としてトロヤに遠征するが、オデュッセウスの計略にかかって殺される。これはオデュッセウスの復讐(ふくしゅう)であった。

　パラメデスはアガメムノンの使者として、オデュッセウスにトロヤ遠征への参加を求めたが、結婚まもないうえに男児テレマコスにも恵まれていたオデュッセウスは、出征を嫌ってパラメデスの面前で狂人を装う。しかし真相を察したパラメデスは、テレマコスに危害を与えるように見せかけて、その偽りの狂気を見破った。やむなくオデュッセウスはトロヤ戦争に参加することになったが、パラメデスを深く恨んだ彼は報復の機をうかがうことになる。トロヤ上陸後、オデュッセウスは、パラメデスが敵と内応していると巧妙に諸将を信じ込ませ、彼を裏切者として投石で打ち殺させてしまう。彼の父ナウプリオスは、この仕打ちを怒り、息子の償いを諸将に求めたが拒否されたので、ギリシア各地を回って遠征の諸将の妻たちが姦通(かんつう)するように仕組んだという。
