Abú 'l-Faraji al-Ifaānī (English spelling)

Arab literary figure. Famous for his edited work, "Aghani." Born in Isfahan, Persia, he was a true Arab, a member of the Quraysh, the venerable Meccan inhabitants linked to Muhammad (Mahomet), and a descendant of Marwan, the last pope of the Umayyad dynasty. He grew up in Baghdad and devoted himself to studying Arab classics. In his later years, he received support from Muizz ad-Dawla, a minister of the Buyid dynasty, and the king of Andalusia (southern Spain).

アラブの文学者。編著『アガーニー』で名高い。ペルシアのイスファハーンで生まれたが生粋(きっすい)のアラブ人で、ムハンマド（マホメット）に連なる由緒あるメッカの住民クライシュの一員であり、ウマイヤ朝最後の教王マルワーンの子孫。バグダードに出て育ち、アラブ古典の勉強に打ち込んだ。晩年ブワイフ朝の大臣であったムイッズ・アッダウラやアンダルシア（スペイン南部）の王からも援助を受けた。
