Asymmetrical ridge

...Valleys often have shallow depressions at the head of the valley, or asymmetric valleys with different slopes on both sides due to differences in the amount of sunlight on both sides of the valley. Snow does not accumulate on the windward slope near the ridgeline, and the strong freeze-thaw action creates a smooth slope, while snow accumulates on the leeward side, creating a steep slope due to snow erosion. Overall, an asymmetrical ridge develops with different slopes on both sides. In Japan, modern periglacial landforms are found in the Daisetsu Mountains in Hokkaido and in the Japanese Alps, and periglacial landforms created during the ice age are found throughout northern Japan.
