A folk song from Izu Oshima, Tokyo. It is said to have started as a labor song for the tea-rolling people of Nomashi Village (now Oshima Town) in the early Meiji period, and was also called "Nomashi Bushi." This "Nomashi Bushi" incorporated "Ochaba Bushi," a labor song for the re-processing of tea that was sung in Yokohama, to form the current melody. Until 1930 and 1931 (Showa 5 and 6), on Oshima it was "Shima Bushi," sung only to handclaps, but at some point it became a parlor song with the addition of shamisen. In addition to this song, Izu Oshima also has "Anko Bushi" and other songs, which are also played for tourists.
