…There is a theory that their origin may have been inspired by the wind-powered prayer cylinders of Tibet or the rotating scripture repositories used in Chinese Buddhist temples, but there is no definite proof. In Europe, the anemurion seen in Heron of Alexandria's Pneumatology is said to be the oldest vertical windmill, but it is thought to have been merely a toy.
