Mutasham Kāshānī (English spelling)

Persian poet. Born in Kashan, he was a representative poet of the Safavid period. Although he is not as good as the top poets of the classical Persian period, he excelled in poetry on Shiite themes and is noted in literary history. In particular, his work on the martyrdom of the third Shiite Imam Hussein at Karbala is considered his masterpiece and was highly praised by Western Orientalists. In literary history, he is also known as Muhtasham.

ペルシアの詩人。カーシャーン出身で、サファビー朝期の代表的詩人。ペルシア古典時代の一流詩人には及ばないが、シーア派をテーマとする詩に優れ、文学史的に注目されている。とくにシーア派第3代イマーム・フサインのカルバラーにおける殉教を主題とする作品が代表作とみなされ、西欧の東洋学者間にも高く評価された。文学史上ムフタシャムの名でも知られる。
