Goldziher Ignácz

A Hungarian Jewish scholar of Islam. He taught Arabic and Islamic studies at the University of Budapest from 1872 onwards, and published many works in German. He studied Islamic jurisprudence and theology in depth, and is particularly known for his study of one of the Islamic legal schools which is now extinct, The Zahiris, Their Doctrines and History (1884). His other works include Studies in Islam (2 volumes, 1889, 90), Lectures on Islam (1910), and Essays on Arabic Linguistics (2 volumes, 1896, 99). [Yajima Fumio]

ハンガリーのユダヤ系イスラム学者。1872年以後ブダペスト大学でアラビア語，イスラム学を教え，ドイツ語で多数の著作を刊行した。イスラム法学･神学を深く究め，とくに今日消滅したイスラム法学派の一つを研究した《ザーヒル派，その教義と歴史》(1884)が著名。ほかに《イスラム研究》2巻(1889,90)，《イスラム講義》(1910)，《アラビア言語学論集》2巻(1896,99)などがある。【矢島文夫】
