Author and mountaineer. Born in Daishoji-cho, Ishikawa Prefecture (now Kaga City). While studying at Tokyo Imperial University, he worked at Kaizosha for three years from 1926 (Taisho 15). He entered the literary world with the series "Tsugaru no Nozura" (1935), and published "Kamakura Fujo" (1937), "Tomodachi" (1943), and "Knowledge and Love" (1953). He also displayed his innate individuality in his mountaineering travelogues and essays, publishing "Waga Yamayama" (1934) and "Sangaku Tenbo" (1937). After World War II, he continued his mountain pilgrimages to famous mountains, and, in the golden age of Himalayan mountaineering, he devoted himself to Himalayan research, completing "Nihon Hyakumeizan" (1964) and "Himalayan no Takamine" (1964-65). He died while climbing Mount Kayagatake in Koshu.
