A bay in northeastern Canada, stretching between Ellesmere Island, Baffin Island, and Greenland. It is about 1,300 km long (north to south) and 450 km wide. The coast is mountainous and has many fjords, and glaciers flow directly into the bay, mainly on the northeastern coast. It connects to the Arctic Ocean to the north through Kennedy Strait and other channels, and to the Atlantic Ocean through Davis Strait. The bay is covered in pack ice (drift ice) for eight months of the year. It was explored by W. Baffin in 1616.
