Pomo tribe - Pomo (English spelling)
A North American Indian tribe living in California, USA, who speak a language belonging to the Hokan language family. They inhabited the Russian River valley, 80-160 km north of San Francisco, from the coast to the inland area, and lived in 20 local groups. They were wealthy and knew no scarcity, with an abundance of food such as fish, waterfowl, deer, acorns, and tubers, valuable salt deposits in the north, and shellfish for making beads in the south. The beaded and feathered baskets they made are said to be of the finest quality. Their religious rituals include secret dances and personification of spirits.
