A district on the right bank of the lower Han River in the eastern part of Guangdong Province, China, belonging to Chaozhou City. A river port 42 km upstream from Shantou. A distribution center for goods on the lower Han River plain, traditional handicrafts such as embroidery and gold and silver work are thriving. It is also famous as the birthplace of the South Seas Chinese, who are particularly influential in Thailand. Han Mountain to the east is home to the temple of Han Yu. Population: 1.1 million (2014).
