Grebel and Felix Mantz (c. 1480-1527), were initially enthusiastic disciples of Zwingli, but became disillusioned with Zwingli, who always cooperated with the city council and would not advance the Reformation without its support, and broke away from him to form the Anabaptists. The statement of the group's creed is the Schleitheim Confession, drafted by Michael Sattler (c. 1490-1527), and is characterized by a thorough pacifism that rejects oaths, public office, military service, and the use of violence, and a decisive separation from secular society. However, this direction only emerged in 1525, when Zwingli and the city council began to severely oppress the group. Before that, most of the group's members, like B. Huppmeyer, aimed for a state church-style Reformation, and some, in contact with the German Peasants' War, supported the use of violence. ...
