Hanoverian dynasty

The British royal family from 1714 to 1901. Also known as the House of Brunswick. Following the death of Queen Anne of the Stuart family in 1714, Georg Louis (Georg I), son of the German Elector-Princess Sophie of Hanover and grandson of James I, ascended to the British throne as George I (reigned 1714-1727) according to the provisions of the Act of Succession (1701), and became the founder of the House of Hanover. Since then, the House of Hanover held both the monarchy of England and Hanover for 123 years, but was separated in 1837 when Queen Victoria became Queen of England. After that, in 1901, under the rule of Edward VII, the name was changed to the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha after the family name of his father Prince Albert, and then in 1917 during World War I, the name was changed to the House of Windsor to avoid using the German name of the opposing country, and it has remained that way to this day. The current royal family is a direct descendant of the House of Hanover.

1714年から1901年までのイギリス王家。ブランズウィックBrunswick朝ともいう。1714年スチュアート家のアン女王の死に伴い、王位継承法（1701）の規定により、ジェームズ1世の孫にあたるドイツのハノーバーHanover選帝侯妃ゾフィーの子ゲオルク・ルートウィヒ（ゲオルク1世）がジョージ1世（在位1714～1727）としてイギリス王位につき、ハノーバー朝の開祖となった。以来ハノーバー家は123年間にわたってイギリスとハノーバーとの君主を兼ねたが、1837年ビクトリア女王のイギリス国王即位にあたって分離された。その後、1901年のエドワード7世のとき、父アルバート公の家名をとってサックス・コーバーグ・ゴータSaxe-Coburg-Gotha朝と改称、続いて第一次世界大戦中の17年、対戦国のドイツ式の名称を名のることを避けるためウィンザー朝と改称され、現在に至っている。現王室はハノーバー朝の直系にあたる。
