Kagetsu (Kagetsu) - Crassula portulacea; baby jade; cauliflower ears
A succulent plant of the Crassulaceae family. It is native to South Africa. It is a shrub that grows 1-3m tall, with fleshy leaves that are 3-4cm long and obovate. They are green with red edges, but there are also varieties that do not have red leaves. Pale pink, star-shaped flowers grow densely at the ends of the stems. It was introduced to Japan in the early Showa period. At one time, it was fashionable to literally make a "money tree" by threading new shoots through the holes of a 5-yen coin, and the common name of "kanenonaruki" (money tree) has become established. It should be exposed to plenty of sunlight during the growing season from spring to autumn, and kept in a bright, dry room in winter.
