Japanese: キスゲ（英語表記）day‐lily

A summer-green perennial plant of the lily family that has a long flower tube but blooms like a lily. Horticulturists sometimes call it Hemerocallis. The leaves are linear and grow in two alternate rows. There are two groups: Hemerocallis, which blooms lemon-colored flowers at night, and Daylilies, Daylilies, and Daylilies, which bloom orange-yellow to red during the day. There are about 10 species distributed in the temperate zone of East Asia. Both the English and scientific names were given to the beautiful flowers, which wilt after only one day.

Members of the lemon-colored flower group include the night-blooming Hemerocallis (also known as Yuusuge) H. citrina Baroni var. vespertina (Hara) Hotta (English name late yellow day-lily) (illustration), which is found on the coasts and inland grasslands of the Chubu region and west, and Hemerocallis flava L. var. yezoensis (Hara) Hotta, which is found along the coast of Hokkaido and whose flowers begin to bloom in the evening and continue until the afternoon of the following day.

長い花筒部があるが，ユリに似た花をつけるユリ科の夏緑多年草。園芸家はヘメロカリスと呼ぶこともある。葉は線形で2列に互生する。レモン色の花を夜間に開くキスゲの群と，橙黄色から赤色の昼咲きの花をつけるゼンテイカや，ノカンゾウ，ヤブカンゾウなどの群がある。東アジアの温帯域に10種あまりが分布している。英語名も学名も，美しい花が1日だけでしぼんでしまうことからつけられた名前である。

　レモン色の花をつける群には中部地方以西の海岸や内陸草原に見られる夜咲きのキスゲ(別名ユウスゲ)H.citrina Baroni var.vespertina (Hara)Hotta(英名late yellow day‐lily)（イラスト）と，北海道の海岸に分布し，夕方咲き出した花は翌日の午後まで咲くエゾキスゲH.flava L.var.yezoensis (Hara) Hottaがある。
