Przyboś - Julian Przyboś

Polish poet and essayist. Born into a farming family, he studied at the University of Krakow and later studied in France, where he was exposed to Western art. During World War II, he joined the resistance movement and was arrested by the Gestapo. After the war, he also worked as a diplomat. A theorist of the "avant-garde" school in Krakow, his original lyric poetry, which aimed to break away from traditional poetic forms and rhythms, was dramatic and full of energy, and dealt with themes of social and human conflict. His many collections of poems include "The Screw" (1925) and "In the Depths of the Forest" (1932).

ポーランドの詩人、随筆家。農家出身でクラクフ大学に学び、フランスに留学して西欧芸術に接した。第二次世界大戦中は抵抗運動に加わってゲシュタポに逮捕された。戦後は外交官の経験もある。クラクフの「アバンギャルド」派の理論家で、伝統的な詩形式、リズムの打破を目ざした独創的な叙情詩は劇的でエネルギーにあふれ、社会的・人間的葛藤(かっとう)をテーマとした。詩集『ねじ』（1925）、『森の奥にて』（1932）など多数。
