Japanese dancer. His real name was Terasaki Kotaro. He was born in Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture. He studied under Hanayagi Tokunosuke, and in 1928 (Showa 3) was granted the name Hanayagi Tokubei. He demonstrated his talent in creative dance, forming a dance company and pioneering group dance in Japanese dance, and also exhibited distinctive creative works based on folk dance. In 1962 (Showa 37), he opened the Tokubei Japanese Dance School in Musashino, Tokyo, and trained dancers. He visited many Asian countries before and after the war, and contributed to cultural exchange, including friendly relations between Japan and China. His representative works include "Dokoku," "Living in the Earth," "Fires in the Field," and "Calendar of the Field God."
