An evergreen shrub of the Rubiaceae family, often growing as a vine. In Indonesia, a yellow dye is extracted from the roots. The branches are well-branched and hairless, turning black when dry. The leaves are opposite, elliptical, and 6-12 cm long. The flowers are gathered at the ends of short branches, with the ovaries fused together to form a mass, and the corolla is tubular funnel-shaped, beautiful, white. The name comes from the fact that the flower resembles a parasol. The inferior ovary is one-lobed, consisting of two carpels, and contains four drooping ovules. The entire inflorescence is a single mass, 1 cm in diameter, and ripens red. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
