Irnerius - Irnerius (English spelling)

Italian jurist. He is said to be the founder of the Commentary school and the father of European legal studies. He lectured on Roman law at the Bologna Law School. His method was to add commentaries (glossa) between the lines and in the margins of the Justinian Code, so his school was called the Commentary school (glossatoren). His academic fame spread widely throughout Europe, and students came from all over the country to study with him, and he was loved as Lucerna iuris, the "light of the law."

イタリアの法学者。注釈学派の祖であり、ヨーロッパ法律学の祖ともいわれる。ボローニャの法学校でローマ法を講じた。彼の手法は、『ユスティニアヌス法典』の行間や欄外に注釈glossaを付すものだったので、彼の一派は注釈学派（グロッサトーレン）とよばれている。彼の学問的名声は広くヨーロッパに広まって、各地から学生が集まり、「法の灯」lucerna iurisと慕われた。
