Drawida hattamimizu (English name)

Japanese: ハッタジュズイミミズ（英語表記）Drawida hattamimizu

A member of the phylum Annelida, class Oligochaeta, order Neooligochaete, family Moniligastridae. The body is highly elastic and can reach a length of about 1m when fully stretched. It has 300 to 400 body segments. The dorsal body is deep blue and the ventral side is gray. The annulus is pale pink and is found on the 9th to 15th segments. Each segment has four pairs of setae and no dorsal hole. The gizzard arises from the 12th segment, and six or more are arranged like a jelly. The Moniligastridae are native to India, the Philippines, and the Malay Archipelago, and in Japan, this is the only species that lives in rice paddies near Hatta-machi, Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. It was previously used as bait for eel fishing.

環形動物門貧毛綱新貧毛目ジュズイミミズ科。体は伸縮性が大きく，よく伸びると体長 1mほどにもなる。体節数 300～400。体色は背面が濃藍色，腹面が灰色。環帯は淡紅色で，第9～15体節にある。各体節に剛毛が4対あり，背孔はない。砂嚢は第 12体節より生じ，6個あるいはそれ以上がじゅずのように並んでいる。なお，ジュズイミミズ科 Moniligastridaeのものはインドやフィリピン，マレー諸島が原産地で，日本では本種のみが石川県金沢市八田町付近の水田に生息している。以前はウナギの釣餌に用いられていた。
