Collection of Oracles from Hachiman Usa Shrine - Hachiman Usa Shrine Oracles
This is a book of the origins of Usa Jingu Shrine written in 1313 (Showa 2) by Shin'un, the head priest of Usa Miroku-ji Temple. It has 16 volumes. Since the original was lost during the Genpei War, various historical materials were collected from 1290 (Shoo 3), and the origins of Hachiman Shrine and the enshrined deity were recorded based on oracles. It touches on the so-called conquest of the Three Kingdoms and the Dokyo issue, and also describes the gods of the Kyushu region, centered around Usa, rather than local Buddhist folk legends. It is a major book not only for research on Hachiman faith but also on the history of Shinto. Copies are kept at Usa Jingu Shrine, Hakozaki Shrine, Yusuhara Hachiman Shrine, the Historiographical Institute of the University of Tokyo, and other places.
