Pacheco
Spanish portrait painter and religious painter. Born in San Lucar de Barrameda. He was a Romanist painter heavily influenced by Italian art, and was the teacher and father-in-law of Velázquez. His book Treatise on Painting (1649) is an important document in the history of art, and had a great influence on painters of his time, such as determining the iconography of the Immaculate Conception. His representative works include The Immaculate Conception with Miguel del Cid (c. 1617, in the possession of Seville Cathedral).
