Year of death: 1351.3.10 (Kan'o 2/Shohei 6.2.12) Year of birth: 1305 A military commander during the Nanboku-cho period. According to the family tree, his father was Kuniuji (Tokikuni), but one or two generations are missing. He held the prestigious position of Kozuke no Suke, and is thought to be the direct descendant of the Hatakeyama clan. He was seen in the army of Ashikaga Takauji heading to suppress the Nakasendai Rebellion (1335), which sought to restore the Kamakura shogunate, and in 1336 he became the governor of Ise, but was unable to stop the army of Kitabatake Akiie, who had advanced westward from Oshu, and was dismissed within two years. In 1345, his eldest son Kuniuji (who had the same name as his grandfather) was appointed one of the two Oshu Kanrei, and headed down to Taga Kokufu, but when the Kan'o Disturbance broke out in 1350, the other Oshu Kanrei, Kira Sadaie, a supporter of Ashikaga Tadayoshi, attacked his Iwakiri Castle, and he committed suicide. Although the clan's cooperation ended in misfortune without any history of holding important positions in the shogunate, Kuniuji's son Kuniakira became the ancestor of the Nihonmatsu Hatakeyama clan.
