Takakuni Hatakeyama

A military commander during the Nanboku-cho period. According to the family tree, his father was Kuniuji (Tokikuni), but one or two generations are missing. He held the prestigious position of Kozuke no Suke, and is thought to be the direct descendant of the Hatakeyama clan. He was seen in the army of Ashikaga Takauji heading to suppress the Nakasendai Rebellion (1335), which sought to restore the Kamakura shogunate, and in 1336 he became the governor of Ise, but was unable to stop the army of Kitabatake Akiie, who had advanced westward from Oshu, and was dismissed within two years. In 1345, his eldest son Kuniuji (who had the same name as his grandfather) was appointed one of the two Oshu Kanrei, and headed down to Taga Kokufu, but when the Kan'o Disturbance broke out in 1350, the other Oshu Kanrei, Kira Sadaie, a supporter of Ashikaga Tadayoshi, attacked his Iwakiri Castle, and he committed suicide. Although the clan's cooperation ended in misfortune without any history of holding important positions in the shogunate, Kuniuji's son Kuniakira became the ancestor of the Nihonmatsu Hatakeyama clan.

南北朝時代の武将。系図では国氏(時国)を父とするが1,2代欠落がある。官途は由緒ある上野介で,畠山氏の嫡流と考えられる。鎌倉幕府再興を図った中先代の乱(1335)鎮圧に向かう足利尊氏の軍勢中にみえ,建武3/延元1(1336)年に伊勢守護となるが,奥州から西上した北畠顕家の軍勢を阻止できず,2年足らずで罷免。貞和1/興国6(1345)年,嫡子国氏(その祖父と同名)が奥州両管領の一方に任じられ,多賀国府に下向するが,観応1/正平5(1350)年に観応の擾乱が勃発すると,いま一方の奥州管領で足利直義党の吉良貞家に岩切城を攻められ自害。一族の連携も,幕府要職の経歴もなく不遇に終わるが,国氏の子国詮は二本松畠山氏の祖となった。<参考文献>小川信『足利一門守護発展史の研究』
