Joint disposal of equipment

Japanese: 設備共同廃棄 - せつびきょうどうはいき

When a recession causes a large overproduction and product prices to fall sharply, most of the companies in an industry cooperate to dispose of a certain percentage of their production facilities so that they cannot be used at each company or group of companies. The purpose is to prevent product prices from falling by restricting production, and to halt a deterioration in corporate profits. Shortening operations is also a coordinated act of reducing production, but if demand increases as the economy recovers, shortening operations (production cuts) can be stopped and production can be increased. In contrast, with joint equipment disposal, production equipment is disposed of so that it can never be used again, so production cannot be increased.

不況によって大幅な生産過剰となり，製品の価格低下が著しい場合に，業界の大部分の企業が協調して，各企業あるいは企業グループ単位で一定割合の生産設備を使用できないように処分すること。その目的は生産制限によって，製品価格の低下を防ぎ，企業の収益悪化を止めることにある。　操業短縮も協調的な減産行為であるが，景気回復に伴い需要が増加すれば，操短(減産)をやめて，生産を増加させることができる。これに対し，設備共同廃棄では生産設備を二度と使えないように処分してしまっているから，生産増加はできない。
