A full-length epic poem by Homer, it is the oldest and greatest work in Greece. It consists of 24 volumes. It tells the story of a tragic event that occurred during a 49-day period in the 10th year of the Trojan War, when the brave warrior Achilles, humiliated by Agamemnon, commander-in-chief of the Greek army, withdrew from the battle in anger. Various heroes and gods appear in the work, and the brutality of war and the tragic fates of heroes are depicted in spectacular detail, like a picture scroll.
