Common fishing ground - Iriaigyojo

Japanese: 入会漁場 - いりあいぎょじょう

Some fishing grounds were privately owned and monopolized by specific individuals, but there were many that had been used exclusively by many fishermen since ancient times. Such fishing grounds are called common fishing grounds. However, since the Edo period, while the waters offshore have generally been the fishing grounds of local fishing villages, the waters offshore have been common, meaning that they are free for anyone to use, and are fishing grounds for which no specific right of occupancy has been established. Such fishing grounds would probably be included in the broad definition of common fishing grounds, but common fishing grounds are usually thought to refer to those for which specific right of occupancy has been established.

漁場には私有で特定個人の独占していたものもあったが，古くから多くの漁民が入り会って占有利用してきたものが少なくなかった。そのような漁場が入会漁場である。ただし江戸時代から一般に地先海面は地元漁村の漁場であるが，その沖合海面は入会で，だれに対しても自由ということになっており，特定の占有利用権の成立していない漁場であった。そのような漁場も広い意味の入会漁場に含まれるであろうが，普通，入会漁場とは特定の占有利用権が成立している入会漁場を指すと考えられる。
