The first king of the 26th (Sais) dynasty of ancient Egypt. Reigned from 663 to 609 BC. Son of Neco, a nobleman of Sais, the sanctuary of the goddess Neith in Lower Egypt. At first, he was a puppet of the Assyrian Empire, but later he gained complete independence, wiped out the Ethiopian (Kash) forces from Egypt, suppressed the power of the feudal lords, and unified the whole country, bringing the last glory and prosperity of the Egyptians to Egypt. However, because he used many Greek and Carian mercenaries to achieve this, they continued to occupy key military positions even after the political situation stabilized, and he was forced to make Naucratis a free port for the Greeks.
