Mount Hakodate

Japanese:
Mount Hakodate

A mountain located in the southwest of Hokkaido, south of the central city of Hakodate. It is 332 meters above sea level. It is also called Gagyuzan. It erupted in the Miocene epoch of the Neogene period, with a base of dacite and Pliocene lava and agglomerates on top. It juts out into Hakodate Bay, but is connected to the Kameda Peninsula by a sandbar created by the accumulation of sediment from the Kameda River and coastal currents, making it a tornado. Until World War II, it was a fortified area and public access was prohibited. A ropeway and roads have been developed, and from the summit you can see the Shimokita Peninsula and Tsugaru Peninsula across the Tsugaru Strait from the city, and it is known for its beautiful night view. It is also designated as a special wildlife protection area, as it is home to about 600 species of plants and about 150 species of wild birds.
