Extremely silly and clever

Japanese: 愚極礼才 - ぐごくれいさい

1363－1452 A monk from the Muromachi period.
Born in the 18th year of the Shohei era (1600-1865). A Rinzai sect priest. He followed the teachings of Hirakawa Reishun and became the chief priest of Nanzen-ji and Tofuku-ji temples in Kyoto. He was also known as a scholar of Gozan literature. He excelled in calligraphy and painting, and left behind many temple plaques. He passed away on June 6th in the 4th year of the Hōtoku era (1600-1865). He was 90 years old. He was born in Yamashiro (Kyoto Prefecture). His works include "Tenman Daijizai Tenjinho Goki."

貞治(じょうじ)2=正平(しょうへい)18年生まれ。臨済(りんざい)宗。平川礼浚(へいせん-れいしゅん)の法をつぎ,京都の南禅寺,東福寺の住持となる。五山文学者としても知られる。書画にすぐれ,寺院の扁額(へんがく)を多数のこした。宝徳4年6月6日死去。90歳。山城(京都府)出身。著作に「天満大自在天神宝(じんほう)号記」。
