Also known as the Bakuro-cho Loan Office, this Edo Shogunate office was established in 1817 (Bunka 14) on the former site of the residence of the Kanto Gundai Ina family in Edo Bakuro-cho (present-day Chuo Ward, Tokyo) with the aim of breaking through the stagnant Shogunate loan policy at the time. As of 1817, the total amount of loans handled was 1.18 million ryo, more than 50% of the Shogunate's total loan amount of 2.35 million ryo. During the Meiji Restoration, the office was used as a branch office for various feudal domains. [Oishi Manabu] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
