Haguro dragonfly (Haguro dragonfly) - Calopteryx atrata

Japanese: ハグロトンボ(羽黒蜻蛉) - ハグロトンボ（英語表記）Calopteryx atrata

An insect of the order Odonata, family Calopterygidae (illustration). Body length about 60 mm, hind wing length about 40 mm. Males have metallic green bodies and jet black wings, while females have blackish brown bodies and brownish black wings. A common species that lives in clear running water on flat land, often seen in July and August. It is found from the northern tip of Honshu to Yakushima, but not in Hokkaido. On the continent, it is distributed in the Korean Peninsula, northeastern China, and eastern China. The larvae have very long and slender bodies with long antennae and long spider-like legs, and rest on algae in running water. A similar species, C. virgo , is found in Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu, through the Korean Peninsula, northeastern China, and eastern Siberia (up to Altai).

トンボ目カワトンボ科の昆虫（イラスト）。体長約60mm，後翅長約40mm。雄は金属緑色の体に漆黒色の翅をもち，雌は黒褐色の体で翅も褐色がかった黒色。平地の清澄な流水にすむ普通種で，7～8月ころに多い。本州北端から屋久島まで産するが北海道には見られない。大陸では朝鮮半島，中国東北部，中国東部に分布する。幼虫はたいへん細長い体に長大な触角とクモのような長い肢をもち，流水中の藻などに止まっている。近似種のアオハダトンボC.virgoは本州，四国，九州から朝鮮半島を経て中国東北部，東部シベリア(アルタイまで)に産する。
