An insect of the Lepidoptera, Gelechiidae family. Its wingspan is 1.3-1.7 cm. Its wings are long and slender, with longer hairs on the hind wings than on the left. It is pale yellow, and may have one or two dark markings on the forewings. It is distributed almost worldwide. In some areas, it occurs once a year, but in warm areas, it occurs five or six times a year, and in houses and warehouses that are heated 24 hours a day, it occurs all year round. It lays eggs on wheat ears in fields in early summer, and the larvae that feed on the wheat grains grow in barns and warehouses. The moth also lays eggs indoors, gathering several grains of unhulled or brown rice and feeding on them. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
