A Chinese poet of the late Tang Dynasty. His pen name was Lu Wang. He was from Suzhou (Jiangsu Province). He failed the imperial examination and served as a staff officer for a local government official for a time, but eventually retired to Fu Li in Songjiang (Jiangsu Province) and ended his carefree life of farming and reading in the rain and in the sun. This, along with Pi Ri Xiu, with whom he recited poems in the "Shōryō-shu", can be said to have shown a new way of life for scholars in the late Tang Dynasty. His style of poetry expresses gentle emotions and is praised as extremely elegant. His collection of poems and prose is also called the 20-volume "Collection of Tang Fu Li Sensei's Writings" after the place where he retired, or the four-volume "Kasazawa Sosho" after another name for Matsue, Kasazawa. His essays (short pieces) are rich in metaphors and satire, and were later praised by Lu Xun as sharp criticism of reality.
