A former town in Naka District, central Tokushima Prefecture. It occupies the mountainous area in the upper reaches of the Naka River, and the village of Kitou in the upper reaches, together with the village of Kizawa, form a forestry area known as Kitou. There are beautiful cedar forests, and forestry is active here. There is a dam at Nagayasuguchi, which was built as part of the comprehensive development of the Naka River. The main settlement is Obama along National Route 195. In March 2005, it merged with the villages of Washiki, Aioi, Kizawa, and Kitou in Naka District to become a town, Naka Town. 175.27 km2 . 2,285 people (2003). 徳島県中部,那賀郡の旧町。那賀川上流域の山地を占め,上流部の木頭村は,木沢村とともに木頭とよばれる林業地帯をなす。杉の美林があり,林業が活発。那賀川総合開発の一環として建設された長安口(ながやすぐち)にダムがある。主集落は国道195号線に沿う小浜。2005年3月那賀郡鷲敷町,相生町,木沢村,木頭村と合併し町制,那賀町となる。175.27km2。2285人(2003)。
