Ubuyama [village] - Ubuyama

Japanese: 産山[村] - うぶやま

A village in Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture. Population 1,885 (1995). Located in the northeastern corner of the prefecture, it borders Oita Prefecture to the east. In the southwest, there is the northeastern part of the Aso outer rim, and in the north, there is forest plains at the foot of Mount Kuju. A tributary of the Ono River flows eastward, carving a valley like a tree. Agriculture is the main industry, with the main focus on fattening red cattle and rice cultivation, and shiitake mushrooms are also cultivated. Wagyu cattle breeding is managed in a summer mountain, winter village style. The Kyushu Transverse Highway runs along the northwestern border, and tourism development is being promoted around this. The northern part is included in Aso-Kuju National Park.

熊本県阿蘇郡の村。人口1885(1995)。県北東端に位置し，東は大分県に接する。南西部には阿蘇外輪山北東部の，北部には九重山麓にあたる山林原野が広がり，大野川の支流が樹枝状に谷を刻んで東流する。農業が主産業で，赤牛の肥育と米作が中心で，シイタケの栽培も行われる。和牛繁殖経営は，夏山冬里方式をとっている。北西境沿いを九州横断道路が走り，これを中心とする観光開発が進められている。北部は阿蘇くじゅう国立公園に含まれる。
